Min Length of Patch Lead

Jun 21, 2006 2 Replies

Is there defined somewhere a minimum length of patch leads? Historically we are using 1.5M patch leads because someone stated that .5m patch leads are not allowed for Cat5 installations ?

anyone know garry

About 3cm, otherwise you can't get it into both connectors. None of the UTP ethernet standards I know of have a minimum.

I believe that some fiber systems do, where they assume some attenuation so as not to saturate the receiver.

The attenuation difference between 0.5m and 1.5m UTP cable is pretty small.
