STP Question

Apr 26, 2007 1 Replies

Hi all:

We have a few Cisco Routers and CAT's in a Bridged environment with STP.

  1. How do I find out who or what is currently the root bridge?
  2. Occasionally I would see tremendous amount of traffic that does not look normal, I think it's some sort of "storm" how do I find out what kind of traffic it really is and how to stop it.

TIA.

John

John,

To find out who the root bridge is..log on to one of your switches and run this command... show spanning-tree vlan vlan-id detail That will give the root bridge mac address. Hard to answer your other question without more details. You may need a sniffer to monitor the traffic.
