IPS 4240 cabling question

Nov 16, 2005 1 Replies

Currently i have a 4240 (5.0.x)appliance installed, but in IDS mode, not IPS. If i want to change it to inline/IPS mode, how are the cables physically connected? From one interface to the router, and the other to the firewall? directly connected? x-over cable? Aside from the cabling, is everything else (software wise) configured the same way?

TIA

Should sit inline between your internet connection and firewall. One thing to note is and I fell into the trap, when you put it into IPS mode you end up losing one of the interfaces for management so you need at least 3 interfaces.

Cheers

Matt
