Go and read the specs. Check out figure 7-23 in the Gigabit Ethernet section at and Wikipedia on the difference between 1000base-T and 1000base-TX. is also good.
The MDI/MDI-X distinction applies to 10base-TX and 100base-TX. It would apply to 1000base-TX if it existed, which I believe it does in theory but not in practice.
