Following cisco's instructions at:

've run the upgrade procedure using AP340v1205.img on a Cisco 340 AP but got the above problem - the AP allows only one (the first) client to connect and any other client after that cannot connect, with the AP saying: (Warning): Station 00146cb2a13a Failed Association, status "Too Many Stations in BSS".

In the cisco document, when the img file has finished loading into the 340AP the console should show: Memory Bank:File address size encoding type flags a) DRAM :EnterpriseAP Sys 12.05 00008720 1225476 gzip Exec 0901 b) DRAM :EnterpriseAP Web 12.05 00133A24 149300 .tar.gz Web 0000 c) DRAM :Inflate Ver. c14o 00158158 7496 gzip Dcdr 0900 d) DRAM :350 Series FW 5.20.47 00159EA0 59292 .tar.gz Data 0000 e) DRAM :AIR-CB20A FW 5.20.47 0016863C 60048 .tar.gz Data 0000 f) Config:AP Installation Key FF820000 80 none Key 0000 g) Config:AWC_ConfigDB FF820050 212 AiroDB1 Data 0000

but mine shows: Memory Bank:File address size encoding type flags a) DRAM :EnterpriseAP Sys 12.05 00008808 1204108 gzip Exec 0801 b) DRAM :EnterpriseAP Web 12.05 0012E794 149300 .tar.gz Web 0000 c) DRAM :Inflate Ver. c14o 00152EC8 7556 gzip Dcdr 0800 d) DRAM :AWC PCMCIA FPGA 0.14 00154C4C 37380 none FPGA 0000 e) DRAM :340 Series FWare 05.20u 0015DE50 58656 .tar.gz Data 0000 f) DRAM :PC4800 Firmware 05.20u 0016C370 58652 .tar.gz Data 0000

config AP installation key and Config:AWC_ConfigDB thing.are missing.

my Memory banks also show as: Memory Bank total used left DRAM 16742392 0 16742392 Config 229376 0 229376 FLASH 1835008 1515652 319356 my config bank is empty

but the cisco document shows it should look like this: Memory Bank total used left DRAM 16742624 0 16742624 Config 524288 292 523996 FLASH 7602176 1501612 6100564

where do I get the config stuff from?

I've run the upgrade procedure using AP340v1205.img on a Cisco 340 AP

see Cisco doc

Field Notice: Cisco Aironet Access Points: Lost Installation Key

formatting link

Problem Description

The installation key of the access point has been inadvertently deleted either during a firmware upgrade or during the password recovery procedure.

Background

Without this key, the access point will not contain information on encryption or country-specific radio settings. As a result, the unit will not function correctly.

Problem Symptoms

The following error message will appear: Too many stations in BSS.

Only one client can associate at a time. The Cisco Aironet logo disappears a cannot be enabled. The antenna diversity is not displayed correctly.

Workaround/Solution

Whenever an access point's installation key is deleted, you must Return Materials Authorizations (RMA) the unit. To eliminate the chance of deleting the installation key during password recovery, run access point firmware version 11.07 or later, and use the improved password recovery procedure, which is documented here:

ok thanks for your response Merv. Initially this was bad news but I figure there's got to be a a way an ordinary guy like me can get this key back into the access point without rma. I've seen the docs about copying the installation key back into the flash memory but if you aint got the installation key there then there must be a way to get it in there. If anyone has any pointers I'd be grateful.

You can upload the installation and/or VAR keys to DRAM just like any other files. Once they are there you can copy them into place. If you do not have your key files email me your unit's MAC address and I can generate them.
