1000BaseTX comparing to 1000BaseSX

Hello

We've got few 7200VXR (NPE-G1) routers running, each of them have 2xGE connected to catalyst switches. Currently as those connection was done by 1000BaseSX GBICs. Today we need to add 4 additional 7200s and there is question will 1000BaseTX connectivity will be worse than SX connection ? (I thinking about potential problems and performance).

All switches are Catalyst 3560 and Catalyst 3550.

Thanks for advance, Robert

There is no difference between a copper and fiber connection in terms of performance or problems. Copper is definitely easier to troubleshoot (a simple cable tester can be used to test the cable.) If using copper make sure that it is Cat 5e or Cat 6, and that all four pairs are connected straight though. At my company we always use copper, unless distance dictates fiber, copper is limited to 100 meters in length. Copper GBICs and SFP's are also cheaper than their fiber counterparts.
