Can i lock the IP that i recieve from ISP(DHCP is used by the ISP)

Hi All,

I am looking for a way to lock the IP address that i recieve from the ISP. My ISP uses a DHCP setup. They dont provide statis IP's so plz suggest me if there is any way by which we can lock the ipaddress that we recieve from ISP DHCP server.

Need to do some testing on IP phone, quick response can help me a lot :)

Regards, Vijay

No. Frequently the IP address will remain the same as long as the MAC address of the connected equipment doesn't change; however, that is not guaranteed.

You might be better off to obtain one of the free domain name (e.g. DyDNS) so you can contact your host by name rather than IP address.

Going the way of DHCP has helped cut down on the illegal, according to the ISP, people that do high bandwidth repeated things. Like have their own sub ISP, do a broadcast or file server, etc.
