WEP Hacking Using BackTrack2/Whoppix -- Which Wireless Cards work?

My wifi card isnt listed on the supported page,

and I really would like to play with this stuff, just to see if I can get it to work!

Anyways, is there a known card that works right out of the box with the BackTrack2 distro? I've read some posts about cards that work but require a bunch of pre-hacks and driver patches to get it to work.

BTW, anyone know why USB wireless cards aren't supported?? It seems this would be a nice generic way of ensuring compatability!

Just about any Atheros card that is supported by the MadWifi drivers. I bought some no-name MiniPCI card with an Atheros AR5006XS (AR5414) chipset. As usual, there was a gotcha that I found buried in the developer notes:

Q. My atheros does not work! A. BT uses madwifi-ng. Try: airmon-ng start wifi0 and use ath1 for attacks.

That was good for most of a wasted afternoon.

Nope. I have some guesses, but I don't want to speculate.
