Print-server/usb-printer compatibility

Seems one show-stopper is "host-based" or "gdi" printing process where host cpu does most of the work, running print-driver. Like "Winprint"ers of days past.

I've one such- HP LJ 1018- tried to set up with sister's USR5461 WAP/router/print-server. Setup/install went fine, but nada printed.

USR says that printer won't work, since it's "host-based." (Thanks a lot, now.) But they won't/can't provide go/no-go list of printers that'll work w/router. Isn't this 2007?

Know of any faq-s on printer compatibility, or such?

Surely somebody has to be compiling this, if only as service to clients/customers!

How about you? ;) The problem is that there are way too many printers to make that practical and accurate.

Go back to the store and ask a sales rep or "RTFM"!
