HOW TO Google Maps for Mobile on T-Mobile branded Sony Ericsson TM506

Google Maps for Mobile is very cool -- see

for features.

Unfortunately, if you try to follow the instructions for downloading it to a TM506, you will probably get Invalid Application error.

Work-around:

  1. Go to m.getjar.com on the TM506 browser. It will say it does not recognize your phone. 2. Scroll down and click Java (J2ME) under Platform. 3. On the next page, scroll down and click Quick download code. 4. On the next page, enter code 36425, and then click Download. 5. On the next (Download) page, click Download. 6. On the next (Google Maps) page, click Download. 7. Save and Run the application.

As of this writing, the version downloaded is 2.3.2, which doesn't support the GPS in the handset, but will give you a usable rough location based on tower triangulation.

Note that Google Maps for Mobile consumes a lot of data, so it's best to have a data package (which can of course be used for other useful things like Gmail, Internet Radio, Opera Mini, Skype, YouTube).
