... and I'm sure it's all 100% true and unbiased, that article. Apple are a major source of FUD these days, along with stifling creativity:

it's also a *huge* exaggeration and downright misleading.

"Frequent and unexpected crashes of the device, crashes and freezes of built-in apps and third-party apps, and loss of data."

jailbreaking itself does not do that. only if the user installs buggy software can that occur.

"Dropped calls, slow or unreliable data connections, and delayed or inaccurate location data."

pure nonsense. the dropped calls are because at&t has shitty coverage in a lot of places. plus the location data is via skyhook or gps, totally unrelated to whether the phone is jailbroken.   "Services such as Visual Voicemail, YouTube, Weather, and Stocks have been disrupted or no longer work on the device."

pure bullshit. they all work just fine, other than voicemail which is not really surprising if the phone is activated on an unofficial carrier.

"Additionally, third-party apps that use the Apple Push Notification Service have had difficulty receiving notifications or received notifications that were intended for a different hacked device."

only if they install the patch that uses the same key for everyone who installs the patch (whose bright idea was that?) when properly set up, push works just fine.

"Other push-based services such as MobileMe and Exchange have experienced problems synchronizing data with their respective servers."

i'm sure there's someone out there who had problems but as a general rule, more fud.

"Security compromises have been introduced by these modifications that could allow hackers to steal personal information, damage the device, attack the wireless network, or introduce malware or viruses."

stealing personal information is also possible with approved apps and the rest is a bit of an exaggeration. how many iphone viruses are there? other than the sms hack, which affects any iphone, not just jailbroken ones, the answer is zero.   "The hacked software has caused an accelerated battery drain that shortens the operation of an iPhone or iPod touch on a single battery charge. "

it has in certain circumstances, but not as a general rule.   "Some unauthorized modifications have caused damage to the iPhone OS that is not repairable. This can result in the hacked iPhone or iPod touch becoming permanently inoperable when a future Apple-supplied iPhone OS update is installed."

that's just pure rubbish. you can always put the phone into dfu mode and restore a stock firmware. i know of *zero* cases where jailbreaking has physically damaged the phone. there are hardware mods that could of course damage it, but that's entirely different.
