Let's not discourage him from experimenting. There are students, ham radio operators, and a number of others who like to build electronic devices. I used to do it myself. Sometimes they were kits. Other times, from articles in magazines. Yet other times, things I undertook myself. Some of them were very crude, but what the heck?
