It's ironic that it is Sony, since Sony was on the other side in the famous VCR case. "Sony" is a lawyerly nickname for the case in which the movie and TV industries sued to have VCRs outlawed because they could be used to violate copyright law. The Supreme Court found in favor of the VCR industry because there are substantial non-infringing uses of the machines.
