Delta to Offer Free In-Flight Text Messaging [telecom]

Starting Sunday, Delta will allow free texting on three messaging apps, giving it an advantage with travelers who would otherwise have to pay for Wi-Fi service.

Since the allowed applications include WhatsApp, I'm curious if encrypted texts will be possible.
