Why the Repeater's MAC Address not the LAPTOP's?

Hi,

I'm using a DWL-G710 dlink repeater with DWL-7200AP dlink access

point. Network diagram is: laptop -> repeater -> access point ->

router -> internet

Our router requires the MAC addresses of multiplelaptops connecting to

the repeater for access monitoring but for some reason the router sees

the MAC address of the repeater. Is this a problem with the repeater?

Thanks,

Bench

Not entirely sure I understand what the problem is...

If you are using MAC address filtering, then you need to specify all the MAC addresses that appear in the wireless traffic. A repeater is an implementation of WDS (Wireless Distribution System) described in IEEE 802.11, and the MAC frames in such a link have 4 address fields. The are (informally) the original transmitter and the final recipient, and the transmitter/receiver of the current intermediate hop [1].

So to get MAC address filtering to work you will need to specify the MAC address of both the laptop ans the repeater.

Hope this helps

[1] More formally, the MAC addresses are: DA Destination Address SA Source Address RA Receiver Address TA Transmitter Address
