Wall filter question

It is better to just connect the DSL modem into the phone jack? The only connectors sent with SBC were the dual plugs with the DSL and phone plug side by side. Is that necessary? Seems likes it would be a shorter connection to bypass the filter altogether since no phone is going to be used next to the modem. Thanks.

You do not need a filter for the DSL modem. But keep one handy where you can find it if you do want to use a phone/fax there.
