Redirected loop fault?

Hi, this is my first post on here.

I have had problems with my telephone line; when my modem (BT Voyager

205 ADSL Router) is plugged into the phone socket, there there is a

hissing noise on the phone line. Then, when you plug in computer to the

filter as well, just static on phone; no dialing tone. Incoming callers

go straight to BT answer 1571.

BT engineer has dicovered that the fault is a 'redirected loop',. He

says that the phones on their own work fine; so does broadband alone.

He reckons that the fault is in the computer (Apple eMac) & also the

modem. Modem can easily be replaced. Any ideas what I can do to resolve

this on my computer.

Any advice would be much appreciated.
