I have Dell with Windows 2000 connected to cable modem. Every few hours I loose my internet connection and must restart the system to restore internet. I replaced the modem, but did not help.

I have Dell with Windows 2000 connected to cable modem. Every few hours I loose my internet connection and must restart the system to restore internet. I replaced the modem, but did not help.
First have you tried turning off power to the cable modem for a couple of minutes instead of rebooting? If that restores the connection then the problem is with your ISP.
Second does this only happen when your net activity is inactive or does it also happen when you are using the connection.
