Which is best CPU for residential gateway? GS 03-23-07

We are looking into AMCC, AMD and PowerPC, which is best CPU for
residentail Gateway. Uplink is VDSL, downlink side LAN ports +
wireless + some analog interface. If there is any very good CPU
besides AMCC, AMD and Power Processors?. Thanks.

These are all rather compute-heavy multiple-issue CPUs. I don't
think you need anything that powerful. Memory & I/O bandwidth is
more important. AFAIK, most SoHo routers use ARM CPUs.
