wireless card for motel?

Newbie Question?

I have a Linksys Wireless-B Notebook Adapter card to connect my laptop at home. I'm going to stay at a motel with free wireless internet. My son works at one of these same motels and tells me all that I will need is their password to connect if I have a wireless card.

Will my wireless card work in order to connect? Or are we talking about some other type of wireless card? I've never connected to free wireless at a motel before.

Yes, your card should work fine. Normally hotels/motels with wireless service just do open authentication with no encryption, so any old

802.11b card should do.

thank you much.

I have never connected to free wireless anywhere before. Was unsure if I needed to do some configuring in advance, or if my home wireless adapter was the same type they used at places like this.

My son told a message would just pop up automatically and ask me for the motel's password. If that is all there is to it, then I will be fine.

thanks for your help.
