what we really need ... a UWD

What we really need is a "universal wireless device". A "UWD" would be able to be configured as a bridge or a router, and as a client or as an access point. An even better device (A UWD++) would be able to support multiple configurations, including VLANs, differing for specific SSIDs or MACs. It would be able to bind any wired port, and SSID, or any specific MAC no matter where that MAC shows up, to a specific VLAN for both routing and bridging purposes (e.g. everything in the same VLAN would see each other as in the same ethernet segment), and create virtual interfaces for the router logic to each VLAN which is to have access to the routing logic (maybe one or more won't have any at all).
