What are typical ping times for a WLAN?

Is it typical that ping times be higher when ping'ing machines within my LAN because I'm using wireless clients and encryption on top of that?

ie. Computers "lan3" and "lan5" are wireless laptop machines on my LAN connected by a Linksys WAP54G, BEFSR41, WPC54G, and a DELL MiniPCI WLAN card. The first response is always high then the ping time are normal. Either at 1ms or 3ms.

I dunno, but here are my ping times too. I'm pinging from a wired machine through a wireless router to a repeater.

My ping times are below: generally less than 1ms. This is from a pc plugged into a Belkin F5d8230-4 Pre-N router which, in turn, passes the ping along to a wireless pc about 35 ft away (with 3 walls and several other obstructions in between).
