Understanding speed calculation

======================= My Wireless network is 54Mbit.

8 bits in a byte = 54Mb / 8 = 6.75MB

bethere.co.uk claims to be 24MB down speed.

So my network isn't fast enough? ==========================

I know the above must be wrong so can someone tell me why its wrong so i can understand the correct calculation.

thank you

Bethere only claims 24 mega bits not bytes. See question about what 24 megs means.

So would that be 3MB ? (24/8)

Probably more like 2.4-2.7 (you need to allow for protocol bits etc).

Your wireless by the way will be approx half of 54 at best - there's a LOT of overhead in wireless, plus its half-duplex. plus all connected devices share the bandwidth.
