Any user-modifiable firmware is going to be a problem for those who do not know that "one parameter change at a time; test before making another parameter change; and document your findings".
This is the reason that drivers, software, and firmware are normally locked out for user access.
Those who are patient (or better yet, use the published experiences of others) *might* have success, however it is measured.
