I am trying to help a friend set up Remote Desktop. He has a Sprint DSL 645 modem with a Linksys WRT 54G router. Everything is set up properly as far as I can tell - port 3389 is open and IP address has been double checked. No go. I am wondering if there is something inherent in the 645 modem.
Connect your computer directly to the DSL modem (its a smart ethernet connection, so a straight or crossover cable will work).
Set you local area network connection to DHCP.
Find the default gate for the modem by right mousing the connection and Status > Support, then Repair the connection...or run ipconfig from Start > Run > CMD > ipconfig.
Open Internet Exploder and go to the default gateway address.
Under Advanced Setup, select NAT.
SUA Only > Edit Details

Unplug modem for a few seconds and plug it back in.
