NetGear WPN824v2 Question

Actually I have 2 questions.

  1. Do I need to set some particular setting on this router in order NOT to experience a lower speed on the wireless side when there is both a wired, and wireless connections to this router at the same time? It could be just a coincidence, but I have observed a substantial decrease in speed after login on the PC with the wired connection to the router. That is, I have observed a decrease to 1-5 Mbps when initially it was
54 Mbps with just the wireless laptop logged-on.

  1. How critical is it to use that "blue" ethernet cable (that came with the router) for the connection from the router to the PC? I didn't bother with it since my desktop is in a cabinet, and I didn't want to have to pull out everything. I am wondering if this why I am seeing the problem discussed in the previous paragrah.

Again, thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Wired has no effect on the wireless connection speed.

All you need is a real "CAT5" cable.
