Linksys With DLink DIR-655

My laptop has a wireless G notebook adaptor with srx. This card came with its own utility to connect to wireless networks. I'm running the laptop with Windows XP Pro SP2 all up to date.

I'm curious as to why I need this utility as it seems that WinXP seems to have its own connection utility. So why do I need both?

The connection has been troublesome and I'm trying to fix an otherwise unstable connection. (I get a message on the screen that it can find the access point but not the internet.)

The D-Link DIR-655 came with a copy of network magic and I'm wondering if I can uninstall the linksys utility and just use net magic. Am I just complicating the issue?
