Is there a PCMCIA card that will let me connect to the Internet wirelessly from anywhere without carrying a cellphone?

The GC89 is a quad band device that works both inside and outside the USA. "True global coverage"

John Navas cried out

sprint has what they call a "connection card" which is basically a high speed cellular modem for your laptop used to get "near broadband" speeds in areas that support "near broadband" speeds ie EVDO

Why do you think this is even remotely a solution? Just guessing, what percent of the US do you think is covered by Sprint's EVDO network? Does that qualify in your mind as 'anywhere'?

fundamentalism, fundamentally wrong.

Mostly just the USA, and thus not helpful in this context.
