Encryption?

Encryption?

I have cable internet access through a linksys router to a laptop PC (Windows XP) with a built-in wireless card. What is the procedure for setting up "encryption"? Can someone direct me to a site with a step-by-step procedure? All Google results have assumed that I know more than I do.

TIA

The linksys router manual tells you how to congigure the router.

On the PC, go to Control Panel > Network Connections. Right mouse click on the network adaptor icon that you are using to connect to the router. Go Properties > Wireless Networks tab > and then in Preferred networks, select the network you are connecting to and click Properties. Here you enter the encryption method and passkey etc that you established when configuring the router.

As an aside on the router, change the SSID away from the default value (linksys), and change the default router password (admin).
