Cisco 1232AP and Z-Com client card authentication problems

We're having trouble getting our Z-Com radios connecting to 1232 APs. For the AP, we only have the "B" radio enabled, with everything set to defaults except the SSID and channel.

Z-Com cards are being used in Affirmative thin clients and when we switch cards to a Cisco 350 adapter, everything works fine.

Affirmative says that Z-com cards work perfectly with Cisco 1220B access points.

Any ideas?

A good guess would be the problem is that the client is enabled for

802.11G and the access point is not. If a Cisco access point is setup for B only it will not allow the G clients to connect. The easiest solution is to change the access point to support 802.11G. If you wish to have client adapters connect that have 802.11G you need to set them up for 802.11B only mode or it will not work.

The text below is from the Cisco 802.11G config tab and does not format well into this message but you can see what is enabled. All settings without an asterisk need to be required and all with an asterisk need to be enabled.

Here's one TAC engineers list of things to wiggle when some legacy client has a problem connecting:

Following is a list of AP features that sometimes need to be toggled; the vendor would be in the best position to know which ones they prefer: 1) Aironet extensions on/off (some vendors prefer 'off' - radio settings) - 'no dot11 extensions aironet' under interface dot110 2) preamble to short (the default is long - radio settings) - 'no preamble long' under interface dot110 3) encap 802.1h (instead of rfc1042 - radio settings) 4) data rates 1 & 2M to basic & other rates to allow (radio settings) 5) multiple bssids off ('show run | include mbssid' returns nothing ) 7) 'no dot11 qos mode' in interface config mode (default is on) 8) vlans - some vendors have difficulty with vlans 9) wpa handshake timeout - some vendors need longer ('dot11 wpa handshake timeout' command) 10) some vendors count bits differently in 128-bit-wep - try 40-bit or open
