Changing transmit power on WRT54G

With DD-WRT firmware, the transmit power defaults to 28mW (with a range of

1-250mW).

How high can I safely increase this, presuming that this will improve my WiFi coverage across my property?

I wouldn't raise it higher than necessary for a good signal. The documentation suggests not more than 70mW.

Raising it well above the output of your client card won't help. Just because your computer can hear the router doesn't mean the router can hear you.
