I have several-HP-G54 units. I'm trying to use one with a Motorola Model
U10C018 cable modem on Charter Communication cable internet. (system config
data follows)

WHR-HP-G54 has been set up using opendns.com

DNS1(Primary) 208.67.222.222 (Manual)
DNS2(Secondary) 208.67.220.220 (Manual)

Somehow the system (which part I don't know) is defaulting to the Charter
DNS

DNS3 66.169.221.10 (Via DHCP)
DNS4 68.113.206.10 (Via DHCP)

I've used these with Charter systems before with success but not with the
U10C018 cable modem.

Contacted Buffalo support and while they have been very helpful in the past
they are unable to explain what's happening or how to address the problem.

I should mention that we had to manually set the MAC Address
00:04:5A:75:D3:5B of the modem in the
WHR-HP-G54 set up process otherwise the connection to the internet was
flaky.

This would not be a problem but I have my grand kids using the net work and
want the added protection I can get from opendns.com.

I currently have the system set up as 'open' and will lock down access once
the DNS problem is fixed.

FWIW I'm in the 'toy' mode and can try most anything this group thinks might
help.

TIA

It sounds to me that you configure your router correctly, but you
configured your network card to use another DNS server. Go to start then
run. In the box type in cmd, and click ok. You will see a black screen
come up. At the prompt, type: ipconfig /all

Copy what is displayed, and come back paste here so I can see the results.

hope it helps. Reinhard
