Cisco 4.0.4 VPN causes XP crash

I have a strange problem and would appreciate any information I could get in this regard - My system crashes when connecting to the VPN with Cisco 4.0.4

Here are the steps -

1) Connect to VPN 2) On connection being established, in 5~10 seconds the OS crashes 3) I receive the blue screen stating that "dne2000.sys" as the likely problem and the crash is a DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error.

I have tried reinstalling the VPN software, removing all traces of the "dne2000.sys" driver and trying again. The system crashes each time. This behavior can be seen on more than one system.

Thanks in advance.

the problem is that vpn client is not the only once using the dne system. when vpn client installs it increments the dne counter to 1 but if any other app is using dne it increments the dne counter by one more i.e. 2.

you have to uninstall and reinstall the dne subsystem. then uninstall and reinstall the vpn client.

Hi Rave,

Thanks for providing some pointers related to this problem. I have tested installing and reinstalling the VPN client. I have also removed all traces of the DNE software DNE2000.dll, etc from the system. Unfortunately the problem has not gone. My system still crashes whenever I connect to the VPN system.

I would really appreciate if you could provide any direction on how to explictly uninstall and reinstall the dne subsystem / any idea on how to resolve this issue.

Thanks in advance.
