I found this ad dated June, 1952 from an electronics magazine that shows
that the Los Angeles area for some reason had 6-digit phone numbers even
tho other cities in the U.S. had seven digits. Interesting.

I had asked about this a few months ago here, after I discovered some
old phone numbers on some old wooden clothes hangers. So apparently the
clothes hangers date from the early fifties. Why the L.A. area had only
8 digits is beyond me.

They are seven; DIgby 9-3050 is just 349-3050.

In 1952 Akron, Ohio had 6 digits, PArkway 6874 was home phone.
Some time before 1956 it became PA 4-6874.
