Here's a technical question for the readers: does ringdown signalling still work in ESS offices?
I was in an antique store the other day, and they had a local-battery wall set on display. I asked the salesman if it still worked, and he said it did, but only for incoming calls.
Now, this confuses me: I used to be on the Toll Test board, and anytime I accidentally hit the ring key when listening to a dial tone, it would always connect me to an operator.
Do ESS switches have any provision for ring voltage coming from a customer premise, or is it considered an error condition?
TIA.
