Sacramento scraps plan to install Verizon kiosks [telecom]

By Scott Rodd

Sacramento will hold off on installing over a dozen large digital kiosks that were meant to be part of the $100 million partnership between the city and Verizon Communications Inc.

Under the agreement between the city and Verizon (NYSE: VZ), finalized in June 2017, the wireless company committed to investing $100 million in Sacramento to establish an extremely fast 5G wireless network, implement advanced traffic control technology and offer free Wi-Fi in parks to improve internet access for underserved residents. In return, the city agreed to waive millions of dollars in leasing fees and grant the Verizon access to city conduit for laying fiber cables.
