In this day and age, with existing pay phones being removed. I was wondering how many, if any, would be placed in a new public space.
The NJT/SEPTA/Amtrak train station in Trenton NJ is being rebuilt. The new entrance hall has been opened and it has four pay phones. One was in use today. One of the phones had 25c/minute coin long distance, the others required calling cards for long distance.
The old station had a long wall bank of them (flush panel, no divider betwen phones). In practice, it'd be very difficult for two people to use phones adjacent to each other. This bank was removed when construction started, though a couple of stand alone phones were provided. It was important enough that this was reported to the public in one of the construction bulletins.
