5G concerns [telecom]

[The following reports note] significant effects on the development and reproduction of birds, insects, and other organisms that could have disastrous effects on our fragile ecosystems.

A lot of the 'gloom and doom' comes from questionable sources; has any responsible group [not in the clutches of the carriers] weighed in on this within the past year?

In article you write:

The physics make this all pretty unlikely. Conventional cell towers transmit many orders of magnitude less power than broadcast and public service stations that nobody worries about, and 5G microcells will be smaller and lower power still.

One of the more ironic aspects of the anti-cell-tower crowd is that the more towers you have, the smaller the cells are and the less power needed both at the tower and at the handset. So by limiting the numbers of towers, they increase the amount of RF raditation that mobile phone users are exposed to. Since the power decreases with the square or cube of the distance from the transmitter, if there are any effects they will be a lot more from a phone held 5mm from your brain than from towers a thousand meters. Handset power is what you should care about.
