Siren question - 12V 1A enough?

Hi all,

I have a linear corp alarm and want to buy an outdoor siren alarm - the specs on the alarm are 12V and 1A maximum, which equates to 12W (I think).

All the sirens online appear to be 20, 30 or 40W and people mention quite often they are not loud enough. Can I run a more powerful siren with a relay or something, or what siren would be best?

Thanks!

Which Linear system?

Those wattages refer to the speaker wattage. A 30 watt siren will use almost

2 amps at 12.5 VDC.

That thing would have a heart attack if you connected a big siren to it.

Use a separate power supply and a relay to power the siren.

Yes, that seems the way to go. I'm going to try the Amseco SSX-51 which pulls only just over 1/2 amp, and if its no good then I will hook up a relay. It has good reviews so we'll see.

You can use a spkr or a siren.

The siren output is rated at 1 amp @ 12v It also has wet & dry relay outputs.

I'm going to use the speaker terminals for the voice output and beeping (and I guess also the alarm sound) so that I can hear it more easily from the entrance. The main unit is out of sight. If I am right, I think it has a siren output as well.

has both. I'd use the speaker...less draw on the puny battery.
