Ademco Vista 20 X10 programming question

Ok, its been a LONG time since I did anything on my panel....

It is a single partition, Vista 20P with a 5800L receiver and lots of smokes....

I just getting around to putting in the X10 transformer.... that's not the issue...

I want to have 2-zones send an X10 when they open (my garage doors)

I have read, and re-read the manuals I have, and don't see how to add something to the response for those zones so that they will send a "relay" command when they trip....

I see Field *27 that makes sense...

But nothing about *79 makes sense to me...

Assuming that on Zone 15 I want to send an X10...what do I need to do ?

thanks

Bob

You need to program the relay to respond to the zone not the zone to activate the relay.

First you identify the output (relay or X-10) then program the relay as to what will activate it and what it will do once activated.

Ok... I got that... in what section.. with what code...

I saw something in *80 where I would uses a triggering event and identify a zone... but it didn't finish the idea...

I can use *80 to say Output function is triggering event (E) Activated by Zone Number Output is X10 (*79 stuff)

The Output Action makes no sense for X10... and I am not sure what address would be output (I do know what Housecode though)

Again... for Zone 15 what do I need to set to send a X10 when it faults...

You may think its easy...but it baffles me...I can program the alarm zone stuff, and the X10 automation stuff in my automation controler, but the X10 stuff in the alarm controller makes no sense to me...

A relay does one of two things,

It is open and then closes, or it is closed and then opens. duration is negotiable.

X-10 the same thing on or off.

Sorry if I can't be more help, but I don't have a manual here with me right now... anyone?... anyone?...

Once you identify the event you have to tell it what you want the relay to do (open or close and for how long).

Just call bAss... He says a monkey can do it.

Anyway.

You are going to have to map out two output numbers in *79 (01 & 02) then assign X-10 addresses under "unit number".

Then go to *80 and define how you want each output number (01 & 02) is triggered (for instance: all zones type 1 fire, zone 5 garage door, or a list of individual zones). And what you want it to do:

0 = off 1 = Close for 2 sec 2 = Stay Closed etc....

It is easier in Compass. I hate the finger bone method.

Compass will do X10 Coding ?

OK...I have compas, or can get it (my is an older version)

Do I need that weird modem still? (I still have a Hayse 1200b just for my alarm panel)

You still have to set the physical addresses in the X-10 modules (house and device code), but yes... Compass will speed up the process mightily.

Hey and if he's lucky RLB will post the login for Honeywell's dealer website again

Just download the latest version of Compass. The Hayes modem should work fine.

After re-reading my manuals and watching the posts on this list I put a call/email into Bass home security..

Regardless of what some people think of Mr. Bass... HE GOT ME THE ANSWER I NEEDED.

Turns out, there is an Ademco/Honeywell application note Specifically about programming X10.

Keystroke by Keystroke... just what I needed.

Don't know why no other Ademco Dealer/installer knew about the note...

Oh well, I got what I needed...

Kudo's to Mr Bass, and thanks...

I am glad you received the answer you were looking for. The animus you detect for Bass in this NG has little to do with his knowledge of X10 working with Honeywell security. Many folks posting here have little to do with the residential security market and even less to do with X10. And if you're using the finger bone programming method versus using Compass programming software, that would be one more area where many might never go. If you think you might be needing more free alarm support sometime you may wish to couch your praise and/or condemnation.

Jeeze Bob, you were told exactly what to do (including calling Bass) in Cracker's reply. The fact that you did not take the initiative to read the manual a little or ask a few follow-up questions to actually

*understand* what you are doing is your problem.

Everything about X-10 is in the manual. Look at page 5-9 see the middle where it reads:

"Output Type 0 = delete; 1 = relay on 4204/4229 module; 2 = Powerline Carrier device (X-10)"

Then right below it:

"Unit Number (prompt appears if X-10 is selected)

01-16 = predefined address *] to continue Enter the unit code (set at the device) and press [*]. The system returns to the Output Number prompt."

No application note is needed - you were given all the information needed to proceed on 11/29. If all you want is hand-holding and a series of button presses most guys here (including me) are going to tell you to get bent. Don't come back in here whining and crying because no one took you by the hand and walked you through this. You did not even provide enough detail about the application for someone to do so.

Had you posted that to begin with it would have been absolutely no help to him whatsoever. I can only imagine his call to you - him trying to explain what he wanted to do, you trying to figure out what the hell to do - then the call to Honeywell for an hour while the poor tech explained it to you.

Then the fun part - you call good 'ol Bob back and ask him to call you back because long distance aint cheap. You go about the process of all these key presses but it just aint working right! Four hours later he's got something half-ass working and says "good enough". Am I close? Heh Heh Heh.

Reply to

Nope... worked right the first time...

And Anyone who has worked with Ademco knows EXACTLY what all those presses meant.

Not one person on this list even offered the application note, or mentioned that it existed....

This list may be biased against Mr. Bass, but the few times I have delt with him either on the phone or via email he has be POLITE and helpfull. If he didn't know something, he said so rather than leading me down a path to be abandonded.

I read this list, and I know there is a perenial flame war against Mr.Bass,

Considering he has always been polite, fair and gotten me what he said he would... I will judge him on THOSE things, not what this list says he has done...

Great. Unfortunately you did not give enough information in the original post for anyone here to post a string of numbers though, did you? (not that anyone would) You failed to mention if it was just one zone sending one x-10 signal, or maybe it was one or two or three zone types sending signals to 2 modules, hell you did not even mention what signal you wanted to send.

Yup, that's why your boy had to call Honeywell.

That's because it's unnecessary. Everything is in the manual, as you have been told more than once. If you needed help interpreting the manual I would have gladly helped you with that. It's not rocket science you know.

Nobody "abandoned" you. There were still 3 open responses that you did not reply to.

Tell you what then, from now on just don't even bother with this group and just call Mr. Bass directly. I think you'll get much better results that way.
