5010 and 5280tc problem

I am trying to figure out a problem that won't go away.

Setup.

DSC 5010 Latest version DSC 5280TC V 3.02 DSC EM500 Thermostats (2) Several x10 controls to control lights

The 5280tc is used by a european customer to check on his home here.

The problem is the numeral 3 willl not work on this system at all.

Tech support has been contacted, they said defective 5280tc. Replaced it twice.

Reprogrammed it from default several times and downloaded it from blank and setup templates. From inside the residence it will answer the access and it recognizes the 3. But from a outside line, hard phone or cell and we have tried many, we can not get it to recognized the 3. Every number works but the 3.

Any suggestions as this is hardcoded and cannot be changed to a different number to control the thermostats.

Can you access it with your phone?...not the client's. Any features on his phone service require the 3?

by "european" do you mean he's trying to access his alarm panel here in the states from overseas?

If you're trying to access a US based system from a European based telephone, there might be a subtle difference in tone for the numeral "3". About six years ago, a client of mine was in London (England) and tried to access his Ademco panel over a friend's cell phone. He couldn't do it and Admeco Tech Support at the time put it down to incompatible tone frequencies. The way to help your client would be to purchase the international version of the 5280 and piggy-back both together. Give him a switch (double pole/single throw) and allow him to select which 5280 is active by switching to either "US" or "European" version.

Hey... I'd spend a little time "Rfreshing" your website... You're still advertising Alarm Central's "UL Listed"... Tsk!

hmmmm my cellphone has trouble with it's OWN tones being recognized to access vm...you know that echo.

this probs interesting.

but you're also saying that you cannot access it from here in the states with a regular phone...i would think that points back to the board or line noise locally.

DTMF or touch tone uses the same frequencies in both the US & the UK and probably the rest of the world also

I can get it to work on about 3 out of ten phones from an outside line. I have considered putting some kind of line filter in place but to the ear I can't hear any noise on the line. My next step is to take a techtronix scope and look at the amount of white noise on the line. I have changed the board out twice to new boards and even reprogramed then manually so as not to download any previous problems back into them. I have even measured the volatge across the line. It is 52v dc normal, 6v dc off hook and ring is 98 volts ac. And again I cant hear any noise on the line, not to say my hearing is any good these days either. I hae used a probe to listen to the line and don't detect any ac hum on the line. Like I say, I am at wits end with this problem.

Thanks for all the advice and I am conisering it all.

this really sound like a line problem..do you have ANY device on this line that is connected between the demarc and the escort module?

did you tried to put it on another line?

i would test it at home with the same phone on wich it didnt worked (like your cell) to confirm if its the line at fault...
