I have a Sony DVD player and on many DVDs we watch, the music soundtrack is
so loud we can't hear the dialogue. Is there any way to adjust that?
Are they on separate tracks on the DVD?

In a manner of speaking.  You have seperate channels of sound to each of
your speakers.  The center channel speaker and surrounds and front channel
speakers need to be adjusted to hear the dialogue better.  This is done
through your receiver.

Maybe we should ask if....

Is he using a 5.1 system or not?

Absolutely a good question to start.  My bad for assuming.

I haven't tried it myself, but if one forces their receiver into "stereo"
mode, and plays the 5.1 track from a movie, it may give the same effect?

In any event, if he is using a 5.1 system, some tuning may be in order.  A
description of the hardware would be a good place to start, though I haven't
seen him return to his own thread for answers.
