Why 1366 x 768 for Flat Panels?

Please log in for more thread options I accept that 1366 x 768 and 1024 x 768 are the most-common resolutions for flat-panel displays, and I've seen several that look very good, and I'm probably going to buy one. But why these particular resolutions? Why not, for instance, 1280 x 720, which matches the HD standard for 720p? I read a lot, and I've never seen a succinct explanation for this. I know that 1080- and 480-line signals would have to be scaled anyway, but at least 1280 x 720 would be an exact match for *one* HD resolution, which would seem like an advantage. (And rear projectors usually are 1280 x 720.) In the flat-panel world, is it because the computer WXGA standard makes 1366 x 768 cheaper to manufacture? Thanks. | ||||||||||
