their original brightness level.

Ok, I'll translate:

Based on looking a random material, a Panasonic plasma
will reach half brightness at 100,000 hours.

OK, that means that looking at part of a logo, bug, or banner at full
brightness, they will, at best, fall to half brightness in about 20,000
hours (because they are probably assuming an 18% gray average).

Assuming a linear fate of burn, that means that you will get a very visible
5% burn difference between a bright bug and black bars in 1/10 of
20,000 hours or 2000 hours. That sounds about right for a type of set that
has known burn-in problems.

That's great - we can now all enjoy burnt in dogs/logos at full brightness
for the next 42 years.

I wonder if they just toss this blip out to inferiorate their customer base?
Generally the products, irregardless who produces them, do not last anywhere
near 10% of that time period in the real world.
Like Honda inflating their mileage reports on the cars, now there are major
ramifications heating up because of their subjective advertising.
