Please log in for more thread options I am thinking on buying my first real home theater system, I have found good deals for these, but have no clue if they are compatible, good buys, or i can get more bang for the buck. The receiver can be found for 330 and the floorstanding speakers for 220, I plan to use them for casual music listening and tv/DVD's at home in a not so big apartment, I am not concerned about it been loud but i would like good sound. Thanks in advance for your advise. K

Please log in for more thread options Hmm look for a good Amp by Denon or Yamaha, before HK. Have a computer with 5.1 sound or better on board? Feed that to a computer speaker system such as these; http://www.creative.com/products/welcome.asp?category=4 or http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/productlist/US/EN,crid=2201 Best 5.1 bang for the buck there is.

You will get more features for the money and higher power, higher power means better headroom at lower volumes which translates to better sound. Denon's remotes suffer in my opinion over Yamaha's though. Yamaha makes an easy to use and nicely laid out remote compared to them.

Higher power ratings but higher current amps will put out more real power. I haven't cheked out the hk but I know their older stuff was good, a "50w" hk would kick the snot out of a "100w" sony for exaample. Power ratings are unregulated and grossly unreliable.
