My buddy Bill sent me this link. This guy has a PV powered
electrolyzer, 10x 1000 gal tanks full of hydrogen. Looks outstanding.

The freebies are coming from my Federal tax dollars, my property
tax supported "Higher Education" institutions, corporate "Gifts" donated/
or extorted, all of which are given to this guy and his ilk as they complain
how our terribly greedy society and capitalist system is keeping the
world from the "Green" technology that would save the earth.

The obvious fact is, that the home and cars that he enjoys are all
so expensive that those of us without government or corporate grants
could never afford the things he is demonstrating.

The "10x 1000 gal tanks full of hydrogen" that he even admits
equates to only 40 Gal of gasoline. He has made an interesting
use of a "free" low density energy storage, to provide for topping
off his battery storage, using a noncompetitive exotic device ( the
hydrogen fuel cell, check out the actual cost per watt, especially
if you have to replace the catalyst at the end of its lifetime. )
And that is only if you buy his idea that he is getting "Free"
Hydrogen, with his setup. Just a little less "Free" than the PV
electricity used to make it; I would guess.

I wish I could get everyone else to pay for all my toys, but I
would be hampered by a since of personal integrity. He not
only has gotten his toys paid for by us , but gets many claiming
he is a champion of "self-reliance" (how ironic), and a savior of
the planet.

Luck;
Ken

40 to 70% better than what? Show your work and provide references please.
Are you considering the entire hydrogen fuel cycle or just the part of it that
looks good?

Reference please? Last I heard the catalyst is actually a precious
metal-containing matrix. If fuel cell have suddenly become cheap, long-lasting,
and reliable, please educate me. I am ready to learn.

You missed the point. PV electricity has a high economic cost, and is not
without environmental cost. Taking this high cost electricity and then throwing
half of it away to the inefficiencies of the hydrogen fuel cycle flies in the
face of any reason. You see, the problem with the hydrogen fuel cycle is that
it is highly inefficient. It makes no difference where the electricity comes
from to power it, inefficient is inefficient. "Inefficient: is rarely
environmentally sound.

BTW, I dislike coal plants as much as you do, but that is beside the point.

Clean up the coal emissions then. We need to conserve and make the
most of all energy sources, not waste them.
