Small Illuminated Cordless keyboard

Please log in for more thread options Cordless keyboard, I don't mind if the cordless side of things are IR or 2.4 GHz. As far as the mouse/trackpad side of things are concerned I'd rather have something like this http://tinyurl.com/2ces8a but I'm not keen on this kind of style http://tinyurl.com/2hhkqo I hope I have made myself clear, does anyone know where I can get something like I have described? Please log in for more thread options It seems unlikely anyone would make such a product because the illumination would rapidly drain the batteries. The typical consumer now expects months worth of use from a set of batteries in a keyboard, while an illuminated might not run for more than 3 days (if that) depending on lighting type and brightness level. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

I notice that cordless mice and keyboards are very efficient. The voltage of the batteries in my MS mouse dropped to about 0.9V each before the mouse stopped working. My MS keyboard was still working at 1.0V per battery. A standard LED takes around 10mA, and given the number that would be needed to light a keyboard, it isn't really practical for a portable device. One option that comes to mind are the LED on a flexible stick devices that plug into a USB port. I use one of these with my notebook occasionally and it works fine. Assuming the keyboard is powered off at least 3.6V it should be easy enough to get working of the internal power supply, although some hacking will be required and your battery life may not be that get - probably better than a backlit keyboard would be though. A little lateral thinking started me on the course of phosphorescent keytops though. I was thinking of blank sheets to print on and then varnish or laquer in some manner to protect the legends, but I found http://www.latkey.com/glowing_stickers.asp?SubCat=14 which will go on any dark/black keyboard. -- Andrew Smallshaw andrews@sdf.lonestar.org | ||||||||||||||||||||||
