There are many helpful sites on Google which will also help to explain
with pictures.. here is a couple-:

Essentially you need to know what you want to do with the computer...
"ok, ok apart from use it"... do you want it to play
super fast games, just a run of the mill for a bit of this or bit of
that or are you wanting it for a specific task?

These are the things you need to decide before going out and buying
any gubbins, like mobo, CPU and graphic card all these will play an
important part in a computer for 'Gamers' but not so much for general
purpose user's.

Always select the items with care and not just to go out and buy, then
the building begins.

One thing you need to bear in mind is that you'll need an OS
installation disc, XP operating System will soon be replaced by
Vista, these are not particularly cheap compared to other systems
such as Linux for want of a name.

Yep folks I'm a fan of the ol' Floppy, "nowt wrong wi a
floppy", because it's a cheap handy way of transporting small
files... 1.4Mb lol, it works for me anyway.

The PSU or Power Supply Unit is as important as a CPU chip, the
heavier it is in weight the better it is.... the best ones are
Enermax and Antec brands but they aren't cheap, no doubt there are
many other's but these 'are' the best.

Here's a dandy Power Supply Calculator click this link and it's at the
bottom of the page-:
http://www.journeysystems.com/power_supply_calculator.phpMaybe a good
policy is to pay as much as you can afford for a PSU (Power Supply
Unit). Do stay well clear of the 'El Cheapo
ones'.
