My question is where is the 60 Cycle (pardon the old term) interference
going exactly, if it is causing the deflection to screw up, then you
might want an LCD monitor, if it causing in the cable, then you are
stuck at a 60 Hz refresh.

Note: 60 Hz is 60 Cycles (per second) and I prefer to use the old
(American) term of Cycles when talking about low frequencies.

Considering how susceptible CRT deflection is to just placing a simple
fridge magnet against the screen, I'm inclined to believe it is, as you put
it, the deflection that is being directly affected. The other scenario of
interference via spurious currents being induced through the cable would
seem unlikely given that my PC has all kinds of not-any-less susceptible
cables, which should have fried the components of my PC by now if this was
the case.

Maybe it's because I'm not American, but I had always assumed that almost
everybody understands Hz to stand for cycles-per-second.
