What is the easiest way to get on my parents and my inlaws pc to help
them out. I have been helping them on the phone but it is just too
hard. They are both very new to the PC world and need help quite a
bit. Is there some easy way to get on their pc via the internet and
help them fix their pc by actually being on their desktop???
I heard it could be done but dont know how. By the way they all have
high speed cable connections.

Thanks

Find the article on "Use your Computer from Anywhere" in MaximumPC
(www.maximumpc.com), Feb 08 issue, p. 50. It's a 15-minute (or less) job on
each computer, and works like a charm.

The short version is that you set up a VPN (Virtual Private Network) using
Hamachi and remote-control via UltraVNC.

www.logmein.com for Hamachi
www.uvnc.com for UltraVNC

both free!

I do this for my dad with dameware miniremote control

you need to use a dynamic DNS service and properly configure the
router/firewalls at end end to work

I can then remotely connect to my Dad's PC as long as the problem is not
with the cablemodem and internet services

DNS is completely unnecessary - point the user to www.whatismyip.com
or similar and use the IP direct.

As for software, there are a few options that have already been
mentioned. Personally I prefer to use Terminal Services where the
OS supports it - it is integrated more tightly to Windows than the
other suggestions and gives an experience closer to actually being
sat in front of the machine.
